MOBIL ELEKTRONIK is introducing a newly developed electronic-hydraulic trailer steering system at IAA Transportation in Hannover. The solution sets new standards in terms of integration, efficiency, and operational safety and is based on tried-and-tested DTS® technology from the agricultural machinery sector.
A key advantage of the new system architecture is that it eliminates the need for a sensor in the kingpin. While conventional systems rely on a sensor in the fifth-wheel coupling, DTS® technology determines the data required for steering without this additional component. This eliminates the risk of damage to the fifth-wheel coupling sensor during coupling. At the same time, the design complexity of the fifth-wheel plate is significantly reduced.
Electronic-hydraulic trailer steering systems also offer fundamental advantages over mechanical solutions. Since steering forces do not need to be transmitted via the rotational movement of the fifth-wheel coupling, wear and stress throughout the entire system are reduced. At the same time, they enable a significant reduction in tire wear as well as lower fuel consumption – a decisive contribution to greater cost-effectiveness and sustainability in transportation operations.
With its new development, MOBIL ELEKTRONIK also offers decisive advantages over established electro-hydraulic systems. The servo-hydraulic unit features an ultra-compact design and requires only minimal installation space. The innovative bidirectional drive technology and the direct control of the steering cylinder without a throttle valve ensure maximum energy efficiency. The hydraulic pump operates exclusively during the actual steering movement, which significantly reduces energy consumption and maximizes the efficiency of the entire system.
With this new development, MOBIL ELEKTRONIK underscores its commitment to developing innovative and cost-effective solutions for the commercial vehicle industry and to actively shaping the future of intelligent trailer technology.
