Steering systems for mobile cranes

Steering complexity in mobile cranes
Axle coordination and high safety requirements

ME MOBIL ELEKTRONIK is a pioneer in electronic-hydraulic steering systems for AT cranes and supplies the market leaders in the industry with reliable and safe auxiliary steering systems.

The largest mobile cranes are built with up to 9 axles, whereby the steering system plays a decisive role in determining the direction of travel of the vehicle – far beyond a mere maneuvering aid.

In order to achieve the highest safety standards, we rely on fully redundant architectures in these EHLA® variants, as used in our Steer-by-Wire systems. This redundancy is essential for functional safety in road traffic.

Steer-by-Wire for the main steering system
Tailored to all special requirements

In addition to the steered rear axles, our steer-by-wire technology also offers a solution for the main steering system:

  • Our electronic setpoint generator simulates a steering force with return.
  • The steering movement itself is controlled proportionally hydraulically.

This eliminates the need for mechanical drive shafts or hydraulic hoses in the cab of the rotating upper carriage. The highest safety standards according to ISO 26262 ASIL D allow approval for road traffic up to 80 km/h.
